Slime Time, What Kind?

When looking through Pinterest, there are many different types of slime recipes.  At first it was made with Borax, but that is toxic, so people discovered contact solution, and more.  There is clear glue, white glue, and even sparkly glue. Does it matter which is used? Here are some of the recipes we tried, and what the results were.

Clear glue and borax:
The slime was more solid, and did not droop very well.  The recipe that we used also had us add glitter, and this may be what changed the consistency so much.

White glue, and contact solution:

Hard when bounced as a ball, and droopy when hung from the hands or a table.

When we used five ounces of glue instead of four, the slime would stretch out further.  The brand of the glue may or may not matter. We used Office Works which is smoother and more stretchy,  and Play Day which turned out to be more clumpy, and less stretchy.

Foam slime:

We had never heard of foam slime before, but while we were researching different types, we found a Youtube video with shaving cream slime on it.  My ten year old son just had to try it, and it is his favorite so far. He loves it so much, and it smell really good. We found a recipe to try at: ebinsforlittlehands.com

002The recipe that we found here was: 3-4 cups of shaving cream, food coloring, ½ cup of school glue, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and at least 1 tablespoon of saline solution.  For the instructions on how make this go to: www.ebinsforlittlehands.com/make-slime-solution-fluffy-slime/

Disclaimer:Slime may not be for everyone. After spending some time making slime with my ten year old, I decided to get a shower.  When I came out of the shower, there was slime everywhere. They had decided to make slime on their own while I was getting cleaned up.  There was slime in the hallway, on the doors, on the towels, on the kitchen table, on the back mat, and on the ceiling!

  1. Oh my! I can certainly relate to this post! I now will only allow my kids to make slime in the summer so they can play with it outside. It is when I thought it was safe to leave my kids unsupervised that I returned to find slime in their carpet, clothes and even their bedding. My kids and I actually love slime… I just don’t love the mess, haha!

    1. I keep finding it in the weirdest places! Luckily, it seems to have washed out of the clothes, and or shoe mat.

  2. Oh I made slime over the summer, a nine year old taught me how to make it and I loved it. I’ve been wanting to make it again as I loved the texture through my finger, thank you for sharing the recipe!

  3. My son was into slime a couple of years ago. Some recipes were better than others. Regardless, he always had fun making it! Amazing the things we can come up with using such random ingredients!
