What I Really Learned from College

A little over a year ago, I graduated with my bachelors in educational studies.  I have not used my degree yet, but I did learn some things from attending college.

  1. To wake up early to get things done when the kids are still asleep.
  2. I like to write.  Writing papers for college were no fun, but what they did remind me is that I like to write.
  3. Managing time, and having a “to-do” list.
  4. How to be a better teacher.  I had some good teachers in my classes, and some bad ones.  Being a mentor right now to homeschoolers, and in my yoga class, I am glad to take away some of the things that I thought were good skills to do, and some things that I should never do as a teacher.
  5. Debt sucks.  The loan that I graduated with wasn’t that big compared to others, but it is still there, and I still have to aim to teach enough yoga lessons per month to pay it.

My blog is short, and sweet today, because I should be working on my children’s novel.

“It all began with a crack, and then a pause, and then another crack.  An egg was hatching. New life was beginning. Yet no mother waited with wonder, and amazement for her child.  The only thing that waited for this egg to crack was an unspeakable thing. Something without a face. Something without a heart.  It wait, and waited for this dragon that it knew would hatch. This dragon that it knew it could tame, and use to gain treasures beyond compare.  Finally the time came. The egg slowly began to open, and lying inside was a glorious sight. There lay a wheezing, and exhausted tiny baby dragon.  This dragon was like any other dragon with scales, and claws. He had tiny little ears, and eyes that were closed to the brightness from the little light that seeped through the trees.  It was finally born, this dragon that was one day going to be so strong, so powerful…”

  1. I can relate to all of your learnings listed in this post. Also, that’s a great excerpt from your upcoming novel! It definitely leaves me wanting to read more. 🙂

    1. I am hoping that it turns out to be amazing! I wrote a pre-rough draft using ideas that my 12 year old son, and I came up with, and now I am going back through it with him in order to beef it up, and add more descriptions, and character building.
