Learning to be More Flexible through Yoga Training

I am writing to inform the world that I have completed my 200 hour Teacher Training! This may not mean a lot to everyone, but it means a lot to me. I am currently a homeschool mom. For the last two years, I have taught on Outschool as well. Before that, I taught children’s yoga. Now, I can teach all ages. Though this is very exciting news, it wasn’t always easy.

After becoming certified to teach children through Cosmic kids yoga, I have held my own yoga practice as important. I also love practicing yoga with children. I have long wanted to complete my own training, however, I never felt like I was good enough. I didn’t do the poses well enough. I didn’t know enough. How could I teach yoga if my heels didn’t reach the mat while I am in downward facing dog? What was it that made me take the leap? It was the pandemic. Yoga teacher training classes were now accepted as being taught online. I realized that if I was going to be able to take training online, and not have to leave my children for hours upon hours, I had to do it now. Seize the day is the saying, and seizing is what I did. I found an amazing deal for Yoga Renew, and it looked like it had the training that I wanted, and needed.

Then the struggles began. As many of you know, children need a lot of attention and care. I found it difficult to give my children, and the children that I teach the right amount of attention while also trying to nurture my own educational needs. I found that waking up early was the best way for me to complete my assignments. I thought that I could finish the training during the summer while my children spent more time with friends outdoors. I was wrong on that account. Waking up early is difficult, but trying to get my homework done during the day, was also difficult. The second struggle was the final test in the course. Once I completed the modules, and the test, it felt like the rest would be smooth sailing. I could not be more wrong.

Part of the yoga training is to observe yoga classes, and a very big part is to create yoga sequences for my own future classes. Both of these assignments proved to be very difficult. First I had to find local studios, and teachers. This part was very hard, but I am glad that I did it. I was able to meet other yoga teachers, and learn things while in their classes as well. The sequences proved to be a lot harder. Every time that I thought that I could finish writing out all of the cues for a sequence, I would run out of time, or get interrupted. There were children to care for, meals to make, and lessons to teach. In the end, it was worth it, and I learned a lot about yoga, but I also learned a lot about myself.

Some of the main take always that I I got from yoga training:
No one has to be perfect at yoga to guide others in yoga.
To do lists are important, but so is being present for those who need you.
And most of all. . . it is important to find something to do for yourself so that you can be there for others as well. This one is one of the reasons that I started out on this adventure in the first place. My family is very important to me, as well as my church, and my community. However, if I don’t find something to be passionate about that I can do by myself, it is difficult to serve others.

I am looking forward to all of the people that I will now be able to meet, and help in their wellness journey due to this part of my life.
