What does it mean to teach for VIPkid? In the Pacific Northwest, it means waking up at 2am, teaching, and then going back to bed after. For me, it also means connecting with sweet children across the world, and getting to be a little silly to. It also means paying my debts off, and going on vacations. For me, right now. VIPkid is my present, and my future.
As I worked through my first six month contract with VIPKid, I found the schedule that worked for me. I also found what did not work for me. I decided after a few months, for example, that I did not want to teach classes before 3am. I also discovered that I am a much happier mother if I go back to sleep after I teach my classes. On the days that I would stay awake after, I would get a lot done in the hour or two before my children woke up. The problem was that about an hour or so after my children woke up, I felt like I needed a nap and could not get one until after lunch. My family homeschools and so our mornings are very important to us. I also discovered that a nap after lunch was necessary and that is when my children would do their online learning.
There are gains and losses with teaching online early in the morning as there are gains and losses in any career. What I lost: my time in the morning to write and my evenings after my children would go to bed. What I gained: money for paying off my college loans and going on vacation. I have also gained more joy and confidence. There is something about waking up and teaching children in an animated and expressive way, that makes more of me animated and expressed!
Because of this, I have opened my life up to another contract with VIPkid, and I could not be more excited about the sweet little children that I will be able to “meet” from around the world.

What does it take to be a VIP kid teacher? I will only have my ECE. one class left!!
It does take a bachelors degree. It is one of the mandates from the Chinese Ministry of Education.
