Application – This section is super easy. It can be done online. I would ask that if you are actually going to apply for VIP Kid that you please put me as your referring teacher. This way, I can help you through the process. The application is where VIP Kid determines if you would meet the teaching requirements. Some of these include a bachelors degree, internet connection, and the availability during peak class hours. The class hours are what held me back for a long time. Since I live in the Pacific time zone, the peak hours in China are actually 3:00 – 5:00 am here. After slowly getting up earlier, I decided that this is something that I could do in order to better support my financial goals.
Interview – After the application has been accepted, VIPKid will invite you to complete an online interview. This can be prepared for at home, and then completed online. There is a short demo that you must prepare as well as answering some questions about your teaching experience. Lack of experience does not mean that you will not be able to get the job. It may play a factor in how much you will be paid per hour. At the end of my interview, I was told that I was able to have a job teaching at VIPKid after completing the training, what my hourly pay would be, and how that is broken down.
Training and Mock Class – Once the interview was completed, I had access via the teacher portal to the training that I would need in order to be able to sign a contract with VIPKid. After reading through all of the material, and watching all of the instructional videos, you can perform your mock class. In the teacher portal, there are two different class slides to prepare for. This is scheduled online with a VIPKid mentor. The mentor gives you some tips, and then you teach a class that you have prepared, and the mentor assumes the role of the student. The mentor chooses which of the two slide presentations that you need to teach during that mock lesson. The mentor then gives you feedback about what you do well, and what you need to improve upon. This part of the hiring process can be extremely stressful. I actually failed my mock class twice before I passed! I learned from my mistakes, and persevered, learning more about this teaching method in the process.
Contract – The next step after the mock class has been completed, and passed, is to fill out the necessary documentation. There is a background check, and ID and a transcript or degree must be uploaded. If I had known that an actual degree was necessary from the beginning, I would have ordered it from my school ahead of time. As it was, I waited until I was at this step before reaching out to my college. This mistake cost me time where I could have been teaching students already, and instead I was waiting on the college to get the paperwork to me.
My failure does not define me, it teaches me.
Now I am officially hired on, but have yet to teach a class. I guess the lesson here is to have patience. I have had my obstacles, and getting hired took longer than I thought. If you have any interest in joining me, please let me know, and I can help to get you started.
This sounds so fun.
I sure hope so!
I keep seeing all these writers teaching kids from China, however I know they need a college degree. Once I get mine I am going to be looking into this. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve been looking at this company. Cool to see an insider POV.
I wish that I would have known ahead of time what was all required, so I thought that I would write it out.
I know of others who are with VIP Kid and love it! I hope it is as positive for you as it has been for them. 🙂
Thank you!
