The Ultimate Attack

It has come, it has conquered, but it has not destroyed.  What is this venerable force?  Winter ILLNESS, and it has creeped into my home, and attacked hard.  This weekend, my ears began to bother me as we were out doing our activities for the day.  As time went on I became tired, but I thought that was because we had been out for so long.  By the time we were on our way home, I could feel my throat aching, and swelling so much that it was difficult to swallow.  I use to get huge swelling throat infections in the past, but I wasn’t about to let it take me down this time.

As I arrived home, I decided to attack my sore throat with every natural remedy that I have got, and here were the results.

Apple cider vinegar –  At first I took sips of this nasty little liquid, but did work my way up to a full shot by the next morning.  Apple cider vinegar is known for helping to kill bacteria, as well as clearing up a sore throat.  I also made myself some herbal tea with honey, and drank a ton of lemon water.  By morning time, my sore throat has almost disappeared.

Honey – Local raw honey helps to alleviate seasonal allergies, as well as aid in the recovery of colds and flues.  My husband actually relieved his allergies just by adding local raw honey to his diet, so I try to have some in my tea almost daily.

Herbal tea – Whether or not herbal tea has healing properties, or the warm liquid is just soothing on the throat, I do not know.  What I do know is that a nice hot mug of herbal tea with some honey is always welcome when I am not feeling well.IMG_9818

Lemon water – Lemons are filled with vitamin C, and acidity.  The sour taste of a lemon stimulates the salivary glands, which helps the throat to fight off swelling and soreness.  I squeeze some fresh lemon in my throat as well as cut an entire lemon up into my 20 ounce water bottle.  This not only gets more lemon juice into my body, but helps to keep my hydrated.

Elderberry syrup – Here is the one that I forgot.  These miracle sips may have prevented this illness all together.  Having one spoonful of elderberry everyday boosts the immune system.  I had been regular about this until I ran out, and then somehow I forgot all about it.  Now that I am sick I made another batch using this recipe:

When taking this daily in the past, I had an amazing immune system.  Now, I have a new supply, and will begin again.  No more illness for me.  I fight back, and will work on preventing it more in the future!!!
